An early morning crash involving a big rig and possibly multiple cars has forced the closure of the eastbound 210 Freeway in Pasadena at the transition to the northbound 710 Freeway, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol was notified at 5:19 a.m. that a big rig was blocking the third lane, said Officer Krystal Carter. “It was reported as six vehicles and a big rig on its side,” Carter said. She added that she could not immediately confirm whether all the cars were involved in the crash or whether some had just stopped at the scene to help.

Only two tow trucks were called out, for the big rig and one car, Carter said. There were no immediate reports of injuries. A Sig-Alert was issued at 5:30 a.m., closing the eastbound 210, Carter said.

By 6:15 a.m., heavy traffic was reported and drivers were being advised to use alternate routes. It will remain closed for at least an hour. Diesel fuel spilled onto the freeway and Caltrans crews are cleaning it up, she said.
