Rebels rolling into Fresno

Last season, the Flintridge Prep boys’ cross-country team saved its best race for the last meet of the season.
The members of this year’s Rebels squad would like nothing more than to be able to say the same thing when the dust clears after today’s CIF Cross Country State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Competing in the Division V race at 11:15 a.m., the Rebels, who were the only area team to advance out of Saturday’s CIF Southern Section Division finals at Mount San Antonio College, will look to turn in another strong finishing kick.
Prep finished runner-up at last year’s state meet at Woodward, and after seeing its streak of 17 straight Prep League titles snapped earlier this season before advancing to state with sixth-place finish — three spots lower than last year’s — at the CIF finals, a similar coup to end the campaign would be welcome.
“We had a really good week [of training],” said Prep Coach Ingrid Herskind, who has coached four state champions and five state runners-up at Prep. “We’re definitely shooting for [a] top-five [finish].
“This is all we’ve been working for and what we’ve been shooting for all year.”
