La Cañadans water polo players tend to drift close to home when it comes to colleges–most of the top 10 water polo teams are in California.

University of Southern California men’s water polo, which is ranked No. 1 in NCAA, has four La Cañadans on their roster, two of them as regular players in their rotation: junior Devon Borisoff, a driver, and senior Jordan Thompson, a two-meter. Both have been important cogs to the Trojan’s league-leading defense–the Trojans have only allowed 114 goals in 22 games, 5.18 goals per game, leading their conference.

USC (21-1, 7-0 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference play) finishes their conference schedule against no. 7 UC Irvine on Saturday.  The MPSF Tournament begins Nov. 27 and the NCAA Tournament begins Dec. 5.

The Trojans have already beaten no. 2 Cal, no. 3 Stanford, no. 4 UCLA (these are national rankings, not conference rankings), no. 6 Long Beach State and no. 9 UC Santa Barbara this season in conference.

Their lone loss on the season came at the hands of UCLA in the NorCal Tournament, 5-4, but the Trojans avenged it in conference play.

The Trojans won the NCAA National Championship in 2008, a national championship in 2009 would give the program their first ever back-to-back championships.
