Luger Kate Hansen, a senior at La Cañada High, has qualified to race as a member of the U.S. National Team at the 2009 Luge World Cup after finishing first at the fourth and final qualifying race on Sunday.

Hansen took first place at the fourth qualifying race, held at the 2010 Olympic track in Vancouver, Canada, with a two-race combined time of 1 minute, 40.975.  Hansen won two of the four qualifying races.

“We never dreamed that she would have such a successful string of races,” said her father John Hansen. “She is a little shocked herself, but also very pleased.”

With the victory, Hansen placed first in the overall race-off standings, with 261.5 points combined from all four races, earning her one of the three open spots on the U.S. National Team roster for the World Cup.

Members for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team will be chosen from the results of the World Cup squad.
