Friday Night Stars

During the ninth week of the high school football season, there were plenty of highlight performances. Here are the week’s best …

1) Jacob Steenwyk, Flintridge Prep – There were an abundance of big-time performances during the Rebels’ 41-14 Prep League win against Viewpoint, but none bigger than Steenwyk’s. On defense, he had two interceptions and on offense he blew up for 154 yards rushing and two touchdowns, including an 80-yarder, in just seven carries.

2) Chris Cabrera, St. Francis – The senior linebacker is a tackling machine, with 111 on the season and more than 12 per game. And a 13-7 Mission League loss certainly didn’t change that. Against a stellar Alemany team, Cabrera went sideline to sideline for 15 tackles as the Golden Knights held an Alemany squad averaging nearly 30 points a game entering the contest to just one touchdown and held them to 195 total yards.

3) Kyle Cota, Crescenta Valley – In a hard-to-stomach 14-12 loss to Burroughs, the Falcons quarterback ran for 106 yards in 19 carries and also threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Mike Bako.
