The numbers: Hoover vs. Glendale

The Glendale High and Hoover football teams will take part in the 81st installment of the “Battle For the Victory Bell” at 7 p.m. Friday at Glendale High’s Moyse Field.

Glendale owns a 46-32-2 record in the lifetime series, one of the oldest in the state.

In 1937, the teams took part in a special league title contest after the squads battled to a scoreless tie during the regular-season meeting.

In that era, only league champions advanced to the CIF playoffs, so Glendale and Hoover played a second time with Glendale picking up  12-0 win at the Rose Bowl.

Glendale then captured the Southern California championship with a victory against Santa Barbara.
