LCHS’s Kate Hansen finishes first at World Cup qualifier

La Cañada High School junior Kate Hansen finished first in the third of four qualifying races at the USA Luge’s World Cup qualifiers at Park City, Utah on Friday. The victory all but solidified Hansen’s spot on the World Cup roster.

Hansen took first place with a total time of 1 minute, 30.132 seconds. Her chief competitors in the race finished just behind her.

Hansen’s first two runs were fantastic, finishing in 45.092 seconds in her first run and 45.040 in her second. Both times were the fastest runs of the day in the women’s competition.

Hansen also had the fastest speed recorded on the day at 81.3 miles per hour.
