La Cañada girls’ volleyball crushed another Rio Hondo league opponent on Tuesday, beating Temple City with ease, 25-8, 25-14, 25-8, on senior night.

With the win, the Spartans (21-6, 9-0) clinch their seventh straight Rio Hondo League title and have to beat South Pasadena on Thursday to notch a perfect record against the league for a third consecutive year.

It was a good night for the seniors, as all of them got to play. Seniors Courtney McCutchan, last year’s All-Area Player of the Year, had 13 kills and Maryjo Scott had nine.  Seniors Mary Young and Kelly Arthur were brought in in the final set.  Young had two digs and Arthur had three kills.

The Spartans, the no. 3 ranked team in CIF-SS Division IIA play, just returned from playing in the Redondo Tournament over the weekend, where they went 2-3 against some of the top tier CIF Southern Section talent.

“It was an eye-opener,” said Spartans Head Coach Brock Turner after the Redondo Tournament. “Am I disappointed? Yes. But we’re probably more prepared than we were last year.”
