Glendale resident George Pondella is looking to lead the team from Pondella Motorsports to a victory in the final race of the 2009 Mojave Desert Racing California Series on Saturday at the Stoddard 250 Course in Barstow.

Pondella, who runs his trophy-truck racing team out of his Glendale garage with no major corporate sponsorship, currently leads the Class 100 points standings with 183 points and is fourth in the overall series point standings through the first six events, trailing front runner Joe Jeffrey by 54 points.

Saturday’s nine-lap race on the 25-mile course will begin at 8 a.m. off Hwy. 15 at Outlet Center Drive. Pondella has two victories in this year’s series, winning the series opener at the Wild Wash 250 on Feb. 7 and the sixth race at Lucerne 250 on Sept. 26.
