Behind the 911 dispatchers
CENTRAL GLENDALE — Fire Communication Supervisor Jessica Latta doesn’t consider dispatching a job. She says she was born to do it. Latta and 15 other dispatchers spend most days behind several computer monitors in the Verdugo Communications Center answering emergency calls from residents of a dozen cities.

Protesters arrested
DOWNTOWN — Police arrested seven protesters at the California headquarters of health insurer CIGNA Corporation on Wednesday after they refused to leave the lobby of the Glendale building while chanting slogans like “Patients, not profits. Medicare for all.”

Smoking down, obesity up
CITY HALL — Adult smoking rates in Glendale have dropped significantly since 2005, but obesity rates have climbed, according to a large-scale report on the city’s health due out Friday.

Falcons smash rivals, 15-5
LA CRESCENTA — Crescenta Valley High’s boys’ water polo team started its Pacific League match against rival Arcadia early on Wednesday afternoon and, for all intents and purposes, it ended early as well.
