High winds down Burbank power line, tree

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph Tuesday uprooted a tree, threw branches onto cars and downed a Burbank power line overnight, police said.

Glendale officials reported no complications from one downed tree on public property, three downed private trees and mild debris.

Homes near the Burbank intersection of Magnolia Boulevard and Mariposa Street lost power at about 3 a.m. when a branch, blown loose by the wind, knocked down a power line there, said Sgt. Travis Irving, of the Burbank Police Department.

Power was out for about an hour as crews repaired the downed line, Irving said.

Winds were also to blame for a fallen tree that blocked the entire street on the 500 block of Jamestown Road Tuesday afternoon, Irving said.

The tree was uprooted at about noon and was cleared by city forestry personnel within an hour, he said.

The National Weather Service reported strong wind gusts Tuesday and projected mild winds, up to 13 mph, for Wednesday.
