Officials are calling on volunteers Saturday to help fill sandbags for hillside residents. Sandbags that are filled will be left at the Dunsmore Park lower parking lot, 4700 Dunsmore Ave., for residents to pick up as needed.

Shovels, gloves, water and a pizza lunch will be provided to volunteers. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event is part of the Foothill Community Clean Up Day and Glendale’s “Make a Difference Day” project.

Authorities have urged residents living near fire scarred hillsides to build defenses around their homes against possible mudlfows and heavy rain-off ahead of winter storms.

Sunny skies and mild temperatures are forecast through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
