Talk of drawing shoppers to Kenneth Village with new restaurant

Kenneth Village merchants are growing increasingly interested in the possibility of a new restaurant coming to the one-block commercial strip.

The 40 businesses on Kenneth Road have hit major obstacles in the last year, with construction detours and recessionary spending trends keeping consumers out of stores.

But talk of adding a restaurant space to the area has piqued the interest of business owners looking for any way to bring more shoppers to the area, said Rene Karapedian, president of the Kenneth Village Merchants Assn.

Councilman John Drayman has approached pharmacist Oscar Pallares, who owns the entire stretch of property on one side of the road, about building a new space for a restaurant tenant.

Drayman said he would push city officials to help expedite the process of adding a restaurant to the area, Pallares said.

“It would be trying to connect two buildings together and create a restaurant out of it,” he said. “It’s just in the panning stages. Nothing has come about.”
