Elmo goes to Washington

As a kid, I was a HUGE Sesame Street fan.

So I was intrigued  to see my favorite furry red monster taking part in a series of government public service announcements.

Yup, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Ad Council teamed up to use Elmo as the spokesmonster for a series of PSA’s aimed at swine flu prevention, including hand washing and sneezing tips.

“Sneeze into your arm with Elmo,” he says with a giggle, demonstrating the reccomended way to sneeze.

So why is Elmo being used to fight swine flu? According to the department, the ads are designed to reach children, parents, pregnant women and young adults.

But several late night talk show hosts have had a ball with the PSA’s, making their own mock advertisements.

So what do you think? Was Elmo a good choice? Watch for yourself below.
