Wood stork found at nearby Legg Lake
For those birders who do not want to go to Florida or even Mexico to find a Wood stork, now it’s your time to head over on a 25 minute drive to Legg Lake in South El Monte and see if you can find it too. First reported last Saturday, this beautifully ugly bird is still hanging around almost one week later. It can be found foraging around the edges of one of the lakes at the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area’s three lakes. Look for those with binoculars, scopes or cameras with huge lenses and you are sure to find this Wood stork as well. The last reported Wood stork in this area was more than 20 years ago, so get out and find it before it goes back to where it came from. Legg Lake is on Rosemead Blvd. south of the 60 Freeway in South El Monte.
